Chess

Put down the Wii and PlayStation on your next vacation and return to the old-fashion form of fun! From Bingo to life-size chess, the below hotels and resorts are going “old school” by returning to the Rec Room.

Oversized Chess? Check Mate! An array of destination resorts and hotels offer life-sized versions of the popular board game. Sea Island, a Forbes five star resort situated on the coast of Georgia, recently added an oversized outdoor chess board to their courtyard area at the Cloister hotel. Caribbean Chess by the pool or beach? Doubletree San Juan, the popular business hotel, offers a pool side version, and Rendezvous, the “couples-only” Saint Lucian boutique hideaway, lets guests strike up a heated match on a larger-than-life board, while overlooking stunning Caribbean ocean views.

Bring on…B-I-N-G-O! One of Sea Island’s most cherished traditions is Bingo. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, guests are invited to The Cloister Ballroom for Sea Island’s take on the classic game. As many as 500 guests play to win cash, while children sip drinks named “Big Bird” and “Batman.” Entire families dressed in dinner attire (jackets required for any male over the age of 12) join Billy Bingo in one of the liveliest renditions of bingo ever played. Since 1991, the show stopping bingo caller, Billy Bingo, continues to attract generations of families year after year with his grand entrances, themed costumes and musical impersonations. After the last game is called, the evening comes to a close with a round of Electric Slide and the Bunny Hop.

Shuffleboard: Guests at Hyatt Regency Aruba can enjoy an abundance of games, including the outdoor shuffleboard located next to the Kadushi Bar. Grab your friends or meet new ones while playing under the Caribbean sun. Families are also encouraged to some friendly completion and Hyatt Regency Aruba’s energetic “fun experts” will put together the daily contests and post them at the front desk.
