One of Los Angeles’ most iconic hotels has received a complete overhaul and the welcome mat has been rolled out for guests. Following a dazzling $2.5 billion renovation, Fairmont Century Plaza now stands as a mixed-use development, including accommodation, luxury shopping and 268 privately-owned residences spread across two, 44-storey towers in the heart of the city.

“Fairmont Century Plaza will once again be the Los Angeles hotel – just as it was when it opened to worldwide acclaim in 1966,” noted Philip Barnes, the hotel's regional vice president and general manager.

The Century Plaza Hotel, once revered as the crown jewel of Los Angeles, served as the home and haven for visionaries across art, film, music, politics and business. The property has hosted countless star-studded affairs, including the Emmy Awards, the Grammy Awards and the presidential celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

International firm Yabu Pushelberg was responsible for the design transformation, delivering a modern update whilst celebrating the Fairmont grandeur that Canadian travellers know and love – with a Californian twist. And now, guests are able to check into mid-century glamour and can look forward to attending buzz-worthy events once again; the property has bold plans to reclaim its place as the epicentre of annual award shows, industry events, fashion and film shoots, as well as monumental art installations.

Here’s what guests can expect of a stay at Fairmont Century Plaza, from check-in to turn-down.

A show-stopping lobby bar

What’s a nostalgic glamour hotel without a statement-making lobby bar? The Bar at Century Plaza is considered the hotel's pièce de résistance, featuring a living green wall that completes the California-cool look. The lobby boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that retract into the floor allowing for true indoor-outdoor living, with ample natural light and air flow. The bar menu serves up the classics, but doesn’t lack technique-driven libations, either. For food, think globally-inspired dishes which can be selected from a menu booklet that offers recommendations based on musical tastes.

Step back in time and enjoy a tipple or two at the French-inspired, Lumière, a brasserie that evokes 1920s Paris années folles reverie. Open for all-day service, Lumière is the go-to hotspot for celebrations of all sizes – but certainly best enjoyed with magnums of Champagne. Under the stewardship of Executive Chef Ramon Bojorquez, the menu is chock full of local, seasonal ingredients and brasserie favourites like French onion soup, steak frites and seafood towers.
