Numbers Up In The DR
The Dominican Republic’s tourism industry roared towards a banner year in 2007, with a record-breaking number of tourists visiting the island. From January through October of 2007, more than three million tourists from around the world travelled to the Dominican, more than any other Caribbean destination, according to the most recent figures from the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). Canadian arrivals numbered over 587,000, second only to the number of American arrivals.
“There has been a remarkable increase in the number of tourists arriving from Canada, and around the world,” said Felix Jiménez, Minister of Tourism for the Dominican Republic. “The Dominican Republic is now seen as the premier destination in the Caribbean, with pristine beaches, enticing cultural events and world class resorts ready to accommodate visitors from all over the world.”
