First class experience available, no membership needed

Travellers can now enjoy the new 6,390 square-foot Plaza Premium Lounge space in Vancouver International Airport which offers a first class experience to all passengers, regardless of airline or class of travel, for $40.

The grand opening on March 3 revealed the new modern and stylish space, one of four plaza premium lounge spaces at YVR. It is located in the new A-B connector on Level 3 departures of the domestic terminal, after security and near Gate B15.

Access to the lounge for two hours costs $40 and includes the use of lounge facilities, showers and all food and beverages. It is one of the first pay-per-use lounges where a membership isn’t needed.

Members enter the reception area through a soaring glass entrance and head up a sweeping spiral staircase to the lounge level. Upstairs, the expansive, open-air floorplan offers views of the airfield, mountains and the Strait of Georgia in the distance. The facility, furnished with a warm colour palette, has seating for 135 guests and includes a comfortable lounge, a business centre with computer workstations, and dining and bar areas.

“Vancouver is a very important market for us and this new lounge is the next step in our plan to grow the Plaza Premium lounge brand throughout North America,” Song Hoi-see, Plaza Premium Lounge Management Limited Founder and CEO, said in a news release. “For 10 years travellers through YVR have embraced the comfort and convenience of having a lounge option. We are dedicated to continually improving upon the premium experience we offer our guests.”

The new space offers three private luxury shower rooms with full amenities, and for a separate cost, guests can unwind or take a nap in the semi-private resting areas outfitted with comfortable recliners.

A variety of hot and cold food items are found on the menu, including everything from hot breakfasts, signature pastas, toasted paninis, quesadillas, soups and salads. For beverages, there are specialty espresso coffees, juices, beers, wines and spirits.

For entertainment, high-speed Wi-Fi, large screen televisions and a selection of international newspapers and magazines are also available.

“We are committed to providing our customers with remarkable customer service,” Craig Richmond, President and CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority, said in the release. “This stunning new Plaza Premium Lounge, which is open to all travelers within Canada, is a most welcome addition to the award-winning 170-plus shops, services and restaurants available to YVR passengers.”

According to the release, Plaza Premium Lounge Management Limited now operates 16,500 square-feet of premium lounge space at YVR, and has over 120 locations in 31 international airports throughout the world. They will be opening a new lounge space in Winnipeg International Airport later in 2015.
