Call them trip designers, travel concierges, dream makers – there’s a special day to acknowledge the people who create vacations, and this year, it’s May 2.

Do you have a special travel agent in your life? Here are a few ways you can recognize them for their work.

1. Send a special gift.

Whether a bouquet of flowers, a gift certificate, movie tickets or the like, a small gift can go a long way in making your travel agent feel special.

2. Give them a call or send an e-mail.

It’s easy to say “thanks” without breaking the bank – it’s the thought that counts, after all. Send a card or an e-mail, or take the time to pick up your phone and give them a call – all you have to do is say “thanks.”

3. Drop by with a special treat.

Do you know if your travel agent likes cookies or doughnuts? Tea or coffee? If you live or work nearby their office, stop by with a sweet treat for them and their colleagues. It’s a simple and thoughtful way to show your gratitude.

4. Sing their praises!

The best way to offer thanks to your travel agent is to send new business their way. Put a special post on Facebook telling the story of how your travel agent has made your vacations special and encourage your friends to use them, too. Or, write a review online singing their praise. Referrals go a long way in helping travel agents achieve success.

5. Subscribe them to the 'Experience the World' box.

We admit that this one is self-serving, but it's also a really good idea! If you're a traveller who relies on your travel agent time and time again, consider giving them a little taste of the world in a unique way by subscribing to Canadian Traveller's 'Experience The World' box. Travel agents are often so busy arranging other people's travel that they don't have time to do much of it for themselves, so this is a great way to show them your appreciation.
