Located on the glassy shores of Lake Huron, Goderich is a small town filled with old-world beauty. From the charming octagonal town centre to the beautiful beaches, stunning homes and a lake-framed lighthouse, it’s no wonder that Queen Elizabeth II once called it, “Canada’s prettiest town.” This year marks Canada's 150th birthday, but also Goderich's 190th. In the spirit of celebration, here are five must-attend summer events where you can experience the beauty of Goderich for yourself.
Canada Day Weekend
June 30 – July 2
Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday on the Huron shores taking in what will be an incredible fireworks display. Find yourself on one of the town’s three beaches or find a spot in the elevated Lighthouse Park. On Canada Day, there is a parade and picnic planned with plenty of additional activities that are sure to be a hit with the whole family. Finish the weekend off right by eating like a king at the 44th annual Lions Beef BBQ on July 2.
Festival of Arts & Crafts
Calling all lovers of homemade and handcrafted artisanal goods. Goderich is host to over 120 craft vendors over the July 7-9 weekend. Here you will find one-of-a-kind goods ranging from table top board games, knick-knacks, home décor, art and much more. The market is located at Courthouse Square and helps support the Huron’s Women Shelter.
Friday 12-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
July 13 – 16
Unlike many rural festivals that are held on fairgrounds located at the outskirts of town, Goderich’s Kinsmen Summerfest hosts its main attraction in the downtown core. Check out a variety of events including live music and boxing, and show the world your skills in the annual lip sync battle. All of this takes place in Courthouse Square in the heart of town. This weekend promises good tunes and good times, and supports local causes.
Celtic Roots Festival
August 11 – 13
The Celtic Roots Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the area with attendees travelling in from all over the world. The event offers up an entire weekend of the world’s best Celtic music, art and dance. This three day extravaganza celebrates the Celtic heritage of Huron County and there is no better setting than the beautiful town of Goderich.
However, the best part of the weekend is unscheduled and unscripted. Walk around town and listen to the stories and impromptu music in backyards, pubs, parks and down at the beaches. It really is an amazing thing to be a part of.
West Coast Blues Festival

Make the best of what is left of the warm weather and take in a showcase of Canadian blues talent. The 11th annual West Coast Blues Festival takes over Goderich on Labour Day weekend.
Friday night features the Downtown Shuffle, where attendees can walk between bars, pubs and other establishments enjoying a variety of shows (note, you must get a wristband on-site). Saturday kicks off in the afternoon with a motorcycle show, followed by more live Canadian blues concerts at Courthouse Square.
