Located on the glassy shores of Lake Huron, Goderich is a small town filled with old-world beauty. From the charming octagonal town centre to the beautiful beaches, stunning homes and a lake-framed lighthouse, it’s no wonder that Queen Elizabeth II once called it, “Canada’s prettiest town.” This year marks Canada's 150th birthday, but also Goderich's 190th. In the spirit of celebration, here are five must-attend summer events where you can experience the beauty of Goderich for yourself.

Kinsmen Summerfest

July 13 – 16

Unlike many rural festivals that are held on fairgrounds located at the outskirts of town, Goderich’s Kinsmen Summerfest hosts its main attraction in the downtown core. Check out a variety of events including live music and boxing, and show the world your skills in the annual lip sync battle. All of this takes place in Courthouse Square in the heart of town. This weekend promises good tunes and good times, and supports local causes.

Celtic Roots Festival

August 11 – 13

The Celtic Roots Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the area with attendees travelling in from all over the world. The event offers up an entire weekend of the world’s best Celtic music, art and dance. This three day extravaganza celebrates the Celtic heritage of Huron County and there is no better setting than the beautiful town of Goderich.

However, the best part of the weekend is unscheduled and unscripted. Walk around town and listen to the stories and impromptu music in backyards, pubs, parks and down at the beaches. It really is an amazing thing to be a part of.
